In our recent post in the series on Procedural Safeguards, we discussed facilitated IEP team meetings and noted that several states are experimenting with this concept.
I am informed, however, that 43 states provide some type of IEP facilitation, and as many as 36 states currently offer IEP facilitation statewide or are piloting programs in school districts. I am told further that several states now conduct more state-sponsored facilitated IEPs than special education mediations.
I fear that the prior post may have grossly understated the use of this practice. Our goal is to provide useful information to special education stakeholders. Hopefully this correction makes the previously provided information more useful.
