The district provides that 2nd grade appropriate curriculum would place child in 3rd grade in with younger kids. The recommendation from the district was therefore an alternative curriculum and an alternative assessment test for special needs. (As to issue of gifted...sorry no money for GATE.)Ridiculous!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1691205078500083881.post-74563672306250811652010-01-15T17:48:15.600-05:002010-01-15T17:48:15.600-05:00Anon,

We know children with IEPs do not acheive at grade level. No educational system on planet earth does a better job than the United States of America in assessing and determining the levels of academic acheivement with regard to students with disabilities. We know full well where these kids are functioning academically. We don't need any more assessments which further degrage their self-esteem and serve no rational purpose. I wish Dr. Posny had some gravitas, specifically seriousness, dignity and duty. Too much political correctness here. The folks that pushed NCLB on students with disabilities might as well have been saying, "We don't think IDEA is worth a hill of beans!"

Why not just go back to the days of telling kids, "Try HARDER you lazy bum!"

1%, 2%, 3% - Oy Vey!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
